Working Towards an Interoperable Future

World Mobile and Input Output Global (IOG) have worked closely together over the past three years, as part of their shared involvement in using blockchain technology to bridge the digital divide.

IOG recently shared its update on its sidechains project, a new toolkit designed to usher in a new era of scalability for blockchains. The sidechains toolkit will empower ecosystems to expand access through purpose-made solutions, while leveraging the security the Cardano blockchain offers and its validator network for those sidechains electing to build on Cardano.

As part of this project, World Mobile are happy to announce they are extending their collaboration with IOG, working with the sidechains project team, to fully integrate the purpose-built World Mobile Chain using Tendermint as a Cardano sidechain –the development of which World Mobile has been leading for several months. Through this technology initiative, the shared goal is to bridge a permissioned solution built on Cosmos' SDK with Cardano’s public mainnet. This introduces new possibilities for interoperability between the Cosmos and Cardano ecosystems.

World Mobile needed a permissioned sidechain to meet the requirements of a regulated telecommunications industry. Since such a solution doesn’t yet exist within the Cardano ecosystem, we decided we’d look at how we would be able to achieve this. We’re looking forward to collaborating with IOG on this project and work towards an interoperable future that will accelerate the shared vision that we have had since 2018.

World Mobile has always envisaged a multi-chain future, an internet of blockchains. This announcement marks a milestone in the development of World Mobile Chain and the collaboration between World Mobile and IOG to broaden connectivity to users globally, while also laying the groundwork for IOG’s expanding ecosystem of products as the company rolls out its sidechains toolkit.
