Charles Hoskinson v. Coindesk
Charles Hoskinson, the outspoken Cardano CEO, shared a Hell’s Kitchen GIF on Twitter in honor of Coindesk, naming him one of the 40 most influential people in crypto. In the GIF, TV Chef extraordinaire Gordon Ramsay says, “Hell has frozen over” as Ramsay stands in front of a snow-filled backdrop.
The Cardano founder’s GIF choice refers to his longstanding feud with the crypto news publication. Over the years, they’ve published many stories of him, most of them not flattering in tone — this one, in particular, is incredibly funny. Though, the publication is hardly the only one to have drawn his ire: Cointelegraph and Cryptobriefing are also sworn, enemies.

It’s even prescient now, since, as Hoskinson has admitted, Cardano had to scrap most of what they had worked on.
Most of Hoskinson’s issues with the coverage of Cardano center around the project’s famously turtle pace. “People said our ideas will never work, we’ll never deliver, we’ll never actually ship anything, we’ve never actually accomplished anything. They just sometimes misrepresent reality completely,” Hoskinson said, criticizing the media on his YouTube channel back in July of 2020.
It’s not unfair for journalists to question a project that isn’t meeting deadlines. That’s noteworthy and fair to critique. It’s even prescient now, since, as Hoskinson has admitted, Cardano had to scrap most of what they had worked on.
What’s unfair, for example, is not reporting on Cardano’s Africa Summit. Which Coindesk neglected to do until a day later after they were negged into it thanks to a Twitter brouhaha. Why they didn’t report on that story then is anyone’s guess. But at least now Hoskinson can take solace in the academy Coindesk finally showing that they really, really like him after all.
