Cardano’s Vasil hard fork has been postponed until next month. This is because a few bugs have been discovered.

According to an blog post of Input Output Global, the development team working on the Cardano network decided to postpone the Vasil hard fork until next month during a review meeting held last Friday.

Cardano team finds seven bugs

Yesterday Cardano’s development team conducted an evaluation. During the evaluation of the upcoming Vasil hard fork, a total of seven bugs were discovered.

While none of the bugs are considered serious, the Cardano team doesn’t want to take any chances. That’s why the team chose to postpone the implementation of the Vasil Hard Fork on the public testnet yesterday.

#VASIL UPDATE: Progress continues positively with only minor bugs remaining. Today, however, we have agreed to ensure the core dev team and #cardano ecosystem collaborators have more time for testing before commencing the mainnet countdown.

Aside from the seven minor bugs that were discovered, the team noted that it needs to investigate a few more things related to the Vasil upgrade over the next few days to make sure everything works as expected.

Based on this, the Cardano team has decided that it will roll out Vasil on Cardano’s public testnet by the end of this month. This will last for a period of four weeks. If all works well and exchanges have completed the necessary integration, the Vasil mainnet implementation will go live at the end of July 2022.

Today, IOG and the Cardano Foundation agreed on a new target date to hard fork the testnet by the end of June. Once completed, we will give exchanges and SPOs four weeks to complete all required integration and testing.

What is the Vasil hard fork?

The Vasil hard fork is intended to strengthen the overall operation of the Cardano network. Vasil is expected to boost Cardano’s speed and scalability, as well as improve smart contract functionality. In addition, the upgrade will introduce other important features.

The mainnet rollout of the upgrade was originally supposed to be at the end of this month, but due to minor bugs that have been discovered, the highly anticipated upgrade will go live late next month.

Cardano’s development team has been criticized for the constant delay in releasing major upgrades. However, the team doesn’t seem to care. The team says that it is much more important to guarantee the safety of users and to provide a perfectly functioning service than to deliver the project on time.
