Midnight Project on Cardano: Mine Free Night Tokens with Just Your Browser

A new cryptocurrency initiative is lowering entry barriers to token acquisition by enabling anyone to “mine” tokens using only a standard web browser and a computer’s central processing unit (CPU). The project, named Midnight, aims to democratize access to its native Night Tokens without requiring specialized hardware or significant upfront investment.

Midnight, a project within the Cardano blockchain ecosystem, officially launched its “Scavenger Mine” event. Participants can earn Night Tokens for free by solving cryptographic puzzles directly through their web browser.

This approach seeks to expand participation in decentralized networks. It reinforces Midnight’s focus on privacy, secure computing, and decentralization. The project positions itself as a side-chain offering secure computation.

The Scavenger Mine operates in three phases. A mandatory pre-registration is currently open. The mining phase then runs for 21 days, concluding on November 19.

During the mining period, users contribute to solving cryptographic puzzles. Approximately 30 million tokens are distributed daily, with rewards proportional to each participant’s valid solutions. The market will determine the value of the Night Token, which could range from less than a cent to over a dollar.

Participating requires only a web browser and a continuous internet connection. For those wishing to keep the process active without their personal device running, an inexpensive virtual private server (VPS) can be used for around $5 per month.

Advanced users can leverage an official API to run mining operations from Linux systems. This also allows for integration with automated tools.

Maximizing rewards depends on CPU power and the number of devices engaged. Project representatives suggest using multiple devices or browsers, each linked to a distinct wallet address, to avoid self-competition.

Several Cardano-compatible wallets support the process. These include Eternal, Lace, Typhon, Vesper, Gero, NuFi, and Exodus.

The decentralized application (DApp) connects to standard, secure Cardano wallets. It only accesses public address information and cannot interact with a user’s funds. Creating a new wallet without prior transactions is recommended for organizational purposes.

Midnight has also introduced “Stars” as its smallest unit, similar to Satoshis in Bitcoin or Lovelace in Cardano’s ADA. This micro-unit facilitates the distribution of small rewards among participants.

While not traditional mining, Midnight’s model echoes Bitcoin’s incentive system. It rewards users for their computational contributions in a decentralized manner.

This CPU-based approach for cryptographic problem-solving also opens possibilities for integrating distributed artificial intelligence (AI) processes. In such a system, AI tasks could be divided among thousands of participants and rewarded with tokens.

Midnight’s initiative strengthens Cardano’s broader strategy for privacy, scalability, and functional diversity. Its secure computing structure, which uses zero-knowledge proofs, could establish foundations for new financial and private data applications within the ecosystem.
