Cardano network reaches important threshold for Vasil update

It could already be read in the latest cardano news; the big Vasil update is getting closer! The project’s founder, Charles Hoskinson, recently shared his expectations for when the update will take place. It looks like September will be the month when this will happen.

Cardano founder: ‘Sometime in September’

Hoskinson discussed the current state of affairs in a recent video. In it, he explains how the process of such a major update works in practice. so should nodes update their software. The large exchanges that run Cardano nodes themselves also need to prepare.

Most importantly, at least 75% of the transaction blocks are created by nodes with software version 1.35.3. Significant progress has already been made in this regard and that important threshold has now been reached. At the time of writing, 77% of the transaction blocks created by nodes with this software version. In short, Hoskinson is pleased with the speed with which the process is now progressing:

“Things are moving very quickly. It is still extensively tested by the community and still by us. There’s a lot of integration work going on behind the scenes, so all that infrastructure looks good. Hopefully we can work with the community and set a hard fork date soon. In a while we will have a meeting with the SPOs here.

So sometime in September is what it looks like unless something is discovered or we run into a significant delay somewhere.”

Vasil is a big step for Cardano

Now that the important threshold has been reached, a precise date is likely to follow soon. Vasil is an important development for the network as it brings several improvements.

Ultimately, transactions should become faster and cheaper with Vasil. This allows the network to scale further. The update was actually planned much earlier. Due to several bugs, it was then decided to postpone Vasil to make sure the bugs are fixed.
