The popular Cardano (ADA) network made an important update last Monday. The so-called block size, or the size of a block in the blockchain, was increased by 10%. Input Output Hong Kong (IOHK) announced this on April 25:
Before the weekend, an update proposal was made to increase #cardano mainnet block size by 8K. This change will take effect later today at the boundary of epoch 335, Monday 25th April @ UTC 20:20:00. The current block size is 80KB, and after this change, it will be 88KB 🧵 1/5

A block is a verified transaction or collection of transactions that is stored and linked to the blockchain. These blocks in the Cardano network have now been increased from 80KB to 88KB, or by 10%.
Larger blocks mean that the network can process more transactions at the same time. IOHK calls it a “significant network improvement.” The cryptocurrency company expects the network’s performance to improve, especially with regard to decentralized applications (dApps).
It is the second such update this year for Cardano. At the beginning of February, the block size on Cardano was increased from 72KB to 80KB, or by 11.11%. IOHK also reports that it will keep a close eye on the network in the coming days.
The company reports that transaction volume has risen sharply on Cardano recently and expects this to continue. IOHK therefore plans to potentially increase the block size even further in the future to optimize the network as it grows.
Cardano continues to grow
The fact that Cardano is growing strongly could already be read on Crypto Insiders in the cardano news this year. For example, it recently emerged that Cardano added 400 new projects in a month. Shortly before that, it turned out that the number of ADA wallets has already increased by half a million this year. It also emerged at the beginning of this month that the number of wallets with $100 to $100,000 worth of ADA had reached a new record.
The next big upgrade for Cardano is called the “Basho” period. This makes so-called side chains introduced on Cardano. These are separate blockchains that run parallel to and are connected to the main network. Such a structure already exists with Polkadot, where they parachains be taken.
