Milkomeda announced today that its EVM compatibility for Cardano Dapps is officially live. Milkomeda bills itself as a layer-2 (utilizing rollups) to bring non-EVM chains like Cardano, Solana, and Algorand EVM compatibility.

- Milkomeda’s approach to compatibility is by developing sidechains. In Cardano’s case, ETH developers will be able to write code in Solidity, but deploy their work onto the Cardano chain.
- “For those unfamiliar, Milkomeda C1 enables Ethereum dApps to be deployed in the Cardano ecosystem,” Milkomeda said via Medium. “This marks a pivotal moment, wherein a lot of the most battle-tested and audited smart contracts in the crypto space are now unlocked for Cardano users to take advantage of.”
- So far the launch is limited to a select number of Dapps as outlined in the layer-2’s Medium post. They include two Cardano DEXs MuesliSwao and OccamX. The two biggest Dexs on Cardano Minswap and SundaeSwap are not included.
- On why they decided to stagger the Dapps available for EVM Milkomeda said, “Out of respect with the network and particularly the community we don’t want to clog the network by provoking a peak that will affect other dApps in the ecosystem.”
- There is a waitlist for users who can access those Dapps. The layer-2 solution says there are over 40,000 addresses on the list. The first 10,000 will be able to interact on launch.
- Milkomeda believes they can remove the waitlist by tomorrow and allow for the public to interact with all their available Dapps.
- Algorand made a big deal about EVM compatibility at ETHDenver. No announcement yet on when Milkomeda will release Algo-based compatibility. Some Reddit users are questioning why there is no mention yet of state proofs in the materials released so far by Milkomeda.
