On January 25th, 2023, SaharaFi, a groundbreaking SocialFi project on the Cardano blockchain, experienced a rugpull orchestrated by an anonymous developer contracted to work on the platform. The platform’s success in fostering a community where users could profit from social interactions led to over 92,000 ADA accumulating in the platform’s wallet. Unfortunately, this financial success attracted the attention of a rogue developer who exploited a vulnerability, draining the wallet and transferring the funds to a Centralized Exchange (CEX).<h1 style="margin-left:0px;">Launch and the Days After</h1>SaharaFi made its debut on January 22nd, 2024, garnering widespread enthusiasm from the Cardano community eager for a decentralized social media network. The platform attracted numerous users who verified their accounts by depositing 20 ADA. A unique trend emerged as users began purchasing each other’s keys, augmenting the value of their social profiles. By the morning of January 24th, SaharaFi boasted 1090 users, 7267 posts, and 1341 messages.Shortly after, Hyena Coin, the platform’s creator, announced an upcoming upgrade for SaharaFi. Approximately 30 minutes later, the upgrade commenced, temporarily disabling withdrawals. Hyena Coin promised users a vastly improved platform post-upgrade, featuring enhanced speed, error-free deposit and withdrawal processes, and heightened security.Amid the upgrade, concerns arose when the founder of the Hyena group informed the Discord community that an attempted exploit on user funds however all funds were secure and there was nothing to worry about.Later that evening, the Cardano community learned about the potentially missing funds through a <a href="https://twitter.com/CardanoNoodz/status/1750314228408352929">Tweet</a> by Noodz, founder of The Alexandra Project, who posted a Wallet Profiler screenshot of the SahariFi funds wallet showing a balance of 2 ADA. The ADA was withdrawn to the wallet and then later sent to a centralized exchange. SaharaFi reached out to authorities as well as the exchange in an attempt to freeze the funds and recover them to refund users of the SocialFi platform.A day later, blockchain detective Bobcorn’s <a href="https://twitter.com/bobcorn_ada/status/1750949992469266834">tweet</a> on X uncovered an intricate scenario surrounding LovelyDev and another discord account called Climax, with allegations of identity deception. Despite LovelyDev denying involvement and pointing fingers at Climax, subsequent <a href="http://.%20https//twitter.com/Cosmic_CNFT/status/1750570105665093642">evidence</a> revealed in private messages indicated that both discord accounts were controlled by the same individual.<h2 style="margin-left:0px;">Latest Updates</h2><img class="image_resized" style="width:680px;" src="https://miro.medium.com/v2/resize:fit:1400/0*luhg9hAbqij9xcE3" alt="" loading="lazy">On the afternoon of January 27th, the official HyenaCoin account on X provided a crucial update, stating that their incident report to authorities has been finalized. Additionally, the Gate.io exchange has confirmed the identification of the thief’s account and expressed a willingness to collaborate with the project. Importantly, the funds in the thief’s account have been successfully frozen, allowing authorities to initiate an investigation with the potential to recover funds for project refunds.The project also communicated that they held discussions with several teams to determine the next steps and affirmed their commitment to ongoing platform development. While reiterating that they currently lack the 92,000 ADA required for community refunds, the project assured stakeholders that they are actively working towards a resolution to facilitate the reimbursement of funds. Para conocer más detalles, <a href="https://es.cointelegraph.com/tags/cointelegraph">Cointelegraph</a> en Español conversó con Diego Mack, quién está detrás de esta iniciativa.Lo primero que quisimos indagar fue el nacimiento del proyecto. “Surgió del ingenio de tres argentinos, con la intención de hacer realidad algo diferente a lo que hasta el momento se hace en <a href="https://es.cointelegraph.com/tags/defi">DeFi</a>”, explicó Diego Mack.&nbsp;Están desarrollando un proyecto denominado MAYZ, con la finalidad de aglutinar los protocolos que se desarrollan en el ecosistema Cardano en un solo punto o fondo de inversión. En este sentido, comentó que están llevando a Cardano “el concepto del SP500”.&nbsp;<ul><li><a href="https://es.cointelegraph.com/news/they-highlight-some-improvements-that-could-be-implemented-within-the-cardano-network">Señalan algunas mejoras que podrían implementarse dentro de la red de Cardano</a></li></ul>El primer producto que está desarrollando MAYZ Protocol se llamará Cadano Index. “De la misma forma que el SP500 aglutina a 500 empresas que cotizan en la bolsa de valores de <a href="https://es.cointelegraph.com/tags/united-states">Estados Unidos</a>, el Cardano Index estará compuesto por los 20-30 protocolos más representativos del ecosistema de Cardano”, aseguró.En la conversación, dijo que los inversores tienen, en principio, dos formas de participar en la bolsa. De esta manera, el inversor podría participar en todos los protocolos con un sólo instrumento.&nbsp;Mack detalló: “El proyecto cuenta con 3 etapas, la primera es la creación del Index de Cardano”.&nbsp;La primera fase está actualmente en curso y consiste justamente en desarrollar los <a href="https://es.cointelegraph.com/tags/smart-contracts">contratos inteligentes</a> necesarios para el “Cardano Index” en el que van a estar varios de los principales protocolos de Cardano (Liqwid, MuesliSwap, Meld, Aada, MinsSwap, WMT, por nombrar algunos).&nbsp;Al ser basado en&nbsp; finanzas descentralizadas, los desarrolladores del proyecto expresaron que “será sin custodia y 100% permissionless (es decir que no necesita permiso para ser usado)”.&nbsp;La segunda etapa de desarrollo del proyecto está basada en la capacidad de que cualquier usuario podría generar el Índice que mejor le parezca. Esto solo será posible gracias a que el protocolo MAYZ está pensado para ser 100% permissionless.En términos concretos, si un usuario (por ejemplo) prefiere crear un fondo dentro del protocolo con los tokens nativos de los <a href="https://es.cointelegraph.com/tags/cryptocurrency-exchange">exchanges</a> descentralizados, lo podría hacer, y por ende, sufriría la exposición de esta inversión que ha creado.&nbsp;Sin embargo, la creación de este índice será independiente del Cardano Index. En este caso el usuario estaría haciendo las veces de “gestor de fondos”, rol que en finanzas tradicionales queda reservado para unos pocos.Para esto, resultará necesario que el usuario tenga en su poder tokens nativos del protocolo (MAYZ), que llevará el mismo nombre que el protocolo. De tal manera que, con esta iniciativa, van a incentivar a que los usuarios de MAYZ protocol, lleguen a crear los índices que consideren necesarios, procurando la diversificación dentro del protocolo.&nbsp;Mack aclaró además que este token nativo del protocolo MAYZ será un token de utilidad más que de gobernanza. Y si bien es cierto que será utilizado para la gobernanza del protocolo, su función principal es la utilidad para poder emplear las funciones que prestará el protocolo“El proceso que se tiene planteado para la creación de cualquier fondo es simple, primero que nada tener los tokens MAYZ, y posteriormente ponerlos en <a href="https://es.cointelegraph.com/tags/staking">staking</a>, esto convierte al usuario en gestor de fondos de ese índice”, puntualizó.La tercera etapa de desarrollo del protocolo es llevar el índice a otras <a href="https://es.cointelegraph.com/tags/blockchain">blockchains</a>, es decir que sea cross-chain, y que a través del uso de <a href="https://es.cointelegraph.com/tags/smart-contracts">smart contracts</a> y bridges pueda el usuario estar en la red <a href="https://es.cointelegraph.com/tags/ethereum">Ethereum</a>, <a href="https://es.cointelegraph.com/tags/polkadot">Polkadot</a>, <a href="https://es.cointelegraph.com/tags/algorand">Algorand</a>, por nombrar algunas de las blockchains a las que quiere llegar MAYZ Protocol.&nbsp;Es decir, en su tercera versión, el objetivo de MAYZ Protocol será traer a Cardano liquidez, y al mismo tiempo busca captar usuarios desde otras blockchains. Por ejemplo, se busca que los usuarios de Ethereum puedan tener exposición al ecosistema de Cardano sin ser expertos en Cardano; incluso haciendo toda la operatoria desde su blockchain de preferencia (en este ejemplo, Ethereum).<h2 style="margin-left:0px;">¿A quién va dirigido?</h2>El público al que apunta este desarrollo es el ecosistema de Cardano. En la fase 1 y fase 2 del proyecto, solo los usuarios de la red Cardano podrían ser capaces de interactuar con el protocolo MAYZ.
