It all comes down to the future.
Eikonikos is a planet similar to Earth that is home to aliens. Humans possess emotional powers that aliens on Eikonikos must absorb from their planet to survive. Love, fury, despair, ecstasy, and dedication are just a few of the emotions the aliens require as a life-force energy in their realm.

As this naturally emitting energy on Eikonikos began to dwindle, and the purity of those emotions began to deteriorate, the aliens sent distress signals into the universe hoping for a helpful response. Years passed before human technology developed sufficiently to interpret the signals, but as news of the terrible conditions on Eikonikos eventually spread, humans agreed to share their emotional energy. In turn, the aliens agreed to share their superior technology and greater standards of living.

As a result, humans now live peacefully while enjoying the luxury of alien technology. At the same time, the aliens visiting Earth are absorbing precious emotional energy, without any negative effect to humans, and beam that life-force back to Eikonikos. The more that is shared the more both planets benefit.
