Intersect, a member-based organization for the Cardano ecosystem, is now a member of the Hyperledger Foundation, the enterprise-grade blockchain ecosystem. Intersect announced this today as the organization takes the stage at Consensus in Austin, Texas. With this new membership, Intersect can leverage the knowledge shared by Hyperledger Foundation members to scale up open-source efforts for the Cardano community and unlock new opportunities for greater enterprise collaboration.

07:00 CDT - Wednesday, 29th May, Austin, Texas: Intersect, a member-based organization for the Cardano ecosystem, has today announced it has joined Hyperledger Foundation, the enterprise-grade blockchain ecosystem, at Coindesk’s Consensus event in Austin, Texas. This new membership is pivotal in the progression of Intersect’s open-source journey, as the organization leverages insights from the Foundation to enhance and drive its open-source strategy.

Intersect is a key institution for the Cardano ecosystem, bringing together companies, developers, individuals, and other ecosystem participants to shape and drive the future development of the blockchain. Since it was formed in July 2023, Intersect has been working on open-source initiatives for the whole ecosystem, such as the Cardano core code repository migration at the end of 2023, with more repository migrations in the organizations' upcoming strategy. This is all part of the wider Open Source roadmap, a key part of Intersect’s commitment to open-source development.

With this new Hyperledger Foundation membership, Intersect can further these efforts and join other developers, enterprises, and organizations to jointly build, share, and enhance blockchain frameworks and tools. As Hyperledger Foundation is a project of the Linux Foundation, Intersect is now also a Silver member of the Linux Foundation, the world’s leading home for collaboration on open-source software, open standards, open data, and open hardware. This is yet another tool for the Intersect community to leverage, strengthening the community’s access to cutting-edge open-source resources.

“Joining Hyperledger Foundation marks a pivotal moment for Intersect," said Christian Taylor, Head of the Open Source Office at Intersect.

“As a member-based organization for the Cardano ecosystem, joining Hyperledger Foundation is a reflection of our commitment to shaping the future of the Cardano blockchain with open-source innovation at the heart. Together with our members, we embark on a journey to redefine possibilities, drive collaboration, and advance the boundaries of decentralized and open technology.”

In the coming months, Intersect’s open-source strategy will continue to progress, strengthened by the knowledge and best-practice sharing from the Hyperledger community and other ongoing internal work. One part of this work is being completed by the Open Source Committee (OSC), which has the goal that towards the end of 2024, all Intersect-maintained Cardano projects will have been audited based on the project lifecycle framework, on factors such as sustainability and their risk mitigation strategy.

This initiative will assess the maturity of Intersect-owned projects, thereby distinguishing those performing well, those needing support to improve, and those slated for deprecation. The opportunity for Intersect members to collaborate with prestigious Hyperledger Foundation members on wider ecosystem projects will mean open-source development can continue within Intersect and Cardano’s core repositories at the highest level possible.

"Intersect's commitment to open source and focus on governance are well aligned with Hyperledger Foundation's mission to foster a thriving ecosystem around open source blockchain software technologies,” said Daniela Barbosa, Executive Director, Hyperledger Foundation, and General Manager, Blockchain and Identity, at the Linux Foundation. “We look forward to working with the Intersect community to champion open source development as a core requirement for decentralized trust technologies and deployments.”
