(IOG), the development team behind the Cardano blockchain, are joining hands to sponsor the first Hackathon for Haskell and Plutus in Latin America (LATAM). The event is organized by Ada Solar and the Universidad Tecnológica Nacional (UTN), a revered university in Argentina.
The event will also be supported by Maestro, an Infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) platform. Maestro will assist Genius Yield in running the bot blockchain infrastructure, including nodes and database synchronization, for smooth operations during this hackathon. Accordingly, developers taking part in the hackathon won’t have to worry about the Cardano infrastructure and will be able to focus primarily on coding and the competition.
During this Hackathon, Genius Yield will be one of the main sponsors, taking the opportunity to educate and highlight the benefits of DeFi to the world. In the spirit of learning and education, the goal of the Hackathon is to learn and compete in a fun way, all while creating valuable connections and professional networks. It shall be open to all LATAM students and teams.
The two-day Hackathon will be from September 3 to 4, 2022. The opening ceremony will be held in the Aula Magna of the UTN, Buenos Aires Regional Faculty (Av. Medrano 951, Buenos Aires, Argentina) at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 3, and concluded on Sunday, September 4 at 6:00 p.m.
This event aligns with Genius Yield’s education goals since it promotes and expands developers’ knowledge of Plutus and Haskell programming languages. Haskell, a functional programming language, is the anchor of Plutus and Marlowe smart contract languages in Cardano. By being a functional language Plutus, that’s used in Genius Yield’s smart contracts, guarantees high-quality code assurance translating to better security.
The event shall be live-streamed by three of crypto and Cardano YouTube influencers, Rodrigo and Sebastián from Individuo Digital, and Martín from Latin Stake Pools. Dr. Lars Brunjes, Marvin Bertin, and Robertino Martinez, an IOG representative, will all be participating in the talks and debates.
Dr. Lars Brünjes is the Partner and Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Genius Yield and Education Director at IOG, while Marvin Bertin is the Partner and Chief Scientific Officer (CSO) of Genius Yield and also doubles up as the CEO of Maestro. Maria Eugenia, the Spanish Moderator for Genius Yield, will also attend. Dr. Lars Brunjes has a Ph.D. in pure mathematics from Regensburg University and teaches Plutus to thousands of developers in the Plutus Pioneer Program.
Commenting, Dr. Lars said:
“Education is critical for blockchain and DeFi adoption. Haskell and Plutus are two of Cardano’s most important programming languages that developers should learn and continuously improve on. I’m excited to be a part of this Hackathon, helping educate attendees and developers, foster collaboration and creativity, and bring Cardano-based solutions to the world.”
Hackathon attendees will have a chance to directly interact with senior members of Genius Yield and IOG, asking them questions on various topics, including current development milestones and future plans in Cardano and Genius Yield ecosystems. Moreover, there will be talks and interviews with different project leaders in attendance, including developers from LATAM. Genius Yield will have a slot to discuss the project and its plans for DeFi. The World Mobile Token will present its project via a livestream.
The total prize pool for the Hackathon is $10k. Genius Yield is sponsoring $1k of the total and will also supply merchandise during this event. CardanoFeed.com will provide a promotional package for the Hackathon. Other sponsors include IOG, AnetaBTC, and Tosidrop.

Ada Solar combines the distribution, transparency, and security of Cardano with green energy to allow clean energy investors to transparently participate in solar power generation, a source that the team says is one of the most affordable on the planet. Energy generated is traded with the national grid via power purchase agreements (PPAs) with utility providers. By leaning on solar and decentralizing green energy generation, the platform helps reduce carbon emissions and contribute to environmental conservation.
Universidad Tecnológica Nacional (UTN) is a state-funded, public, and federal university with 30 regional colleges across Argentina. The university prioritizes engineering courses in its academic structure and has trained engineers for over 50 years.
