Cardano (ADA) has embarked on a remarkable journey after greenlighting a long-term project expected to strengthen the Cardano network and potentially position it for wider adoption.
Notably, the Cardano community has approved 96 million ADA, currently valued at the whopping sum of $71 million, allocated for the treasury to facilitate the network’s protocol upgrades through centralized governance.
The proposal was approved on August 3, 2025, with 200 voters making up 74% of the members of the Cardano community, showing collective support for the proposal.
The 12-month-long network upgrade is designed to boost scalability, interoperability, and usher in stronger developer tools.

Speaking on the new development, Tim Harrison, the EVP Community and Ecosystem at Input/Output, remarked that the latest development was a significant milestone for Cardano. Harrison observed that this was the first time the core protocol development was being funded directly by the community.
Highlighting the significance of the development, Ricky Rand, the General Manager at Input/Output Engineering, explained that securing funding serves as a vote of confidence in Cardano’s future, and a model for how decentralized funding and delivery can scale.
It bears mentioning that some community members are not taking well to the development. Notably, Cardano community members are raising concerns over transparency and cost.
While some are receptive to the project’s attempt at strengthening decentralization across the Cardano ecosystem, many are skeptical about the possibilities as well as the network’s capacity to bring the project to life.
Although decentralization could position Cardano as a more transparent network, potentially making it a more attractive network for investors, it is left to be seen where the network is headed post the upcoming upgrade.
