This week’s guest in the Cardano SPO column is a stake pool that carries out several charitable projects in developing countries , including photovoltaic lighting and freshwater wells: WeQanhet (WEQNT) .
Last week’s host was a Stake Pool managed by a single operator that creates in-depth educational content related to Cardano .
This initiative is a point of reference for everything related to Cardano and every week or two we will invite a Stake Pool Operator (SPO) to answer a few questions and give us an update directly from within the Cardano community.
Considering that many of our readers are new to the crypto space, we will have a mix of simple and technical questions.
Hi Denicio, it’s a pleasure to have you here. Tell us a little about yourself, where do you come from and what is your background?
Hi everyone, my name is Denicio Bernier and I am from the Netherlands. I entered the blockchain world in late 2017 after taking on a colleague’s challenge to provide a list of projects that I believed were better than Ethereum & Bitcoin.
It took me a week to research different projects, but the only one that really caught my interest was Cardano. The reason Cardano caught my attention was the team behind the project and their goal of solving the land registry problem, an issue that has plagued my family for more than 30 years.
Since I discovered Cardano, I have spent my time learning more about the project and informing others about the project.
What prompted you to become a Cardano Ambassador and a Stake Pool Operator?
Before becoming an Ambassador I had a podcast whose goal was to interview community members. At the time, the idea behind the podcast was to show the world that Cardano has a real, vibrant and active community. The community wasn’t as big then as it is today, so I wanted to show the world that we have people from all over the world.
As for managing a stake pool, I believe that every active member of the community should manage one or delegate their ADAs to a community-based stake pool. As an Ambassador, I believe it is my duty to lead by example and help protect the network by managing a single stake pool.
What kind of charity projects are you working on and where?
The WEQNT stake pool is dedicated to providing free photovoltaic lighting to people living in rural desert areas of Africa. We do it with great love and passion for people and we hope that by doing so we can contribute to improving the quality of their life. We are also raising funds to start digging water wells for the same communities.
I am convinced that no one should walk miles just to get a bucket of water. In addition, the water that is drawn from the sources often contains many different bacteria that do not benefit people’s overall health. So if we can help solve some of these issues with the help of the community, then we should.
You can find more information on our website .
Your stake pool has existed since the days of the ITN. Given your experience, what advice do you have for new SPOs? How can they grow?
In fact, I’ve been here since the days of the ITN. It was a very special time. We were all learning how stakepool organization worked and how to market our business and build relationships with our delegates. A truly memorable time!
Since the days of the ITN, I have always said that WEQNT wanted to provide free photovoltaic lighting to the people living in the rural desert areas of Africa and my purpose was kept!
As for other PES who are just starting out or are having difficulty attracting delegators, I would advise them to try to create more visibility for their business and build honest and lasting relationships with their community of (potential) delegators
Thank you for your time. Any final thoughts? Where can people find you?
My pleasure. I really enjoyed this interview. This is a great example of how someone can contribute to the further advancement of the Cardano ecosystem – in your own unique way.
If anyone wants to support us, they can delegate stake pool to WEQNT.
We are a healthy stake pool with a solid mission and would like to grow further and do more good for people in need.
