Cardano SPO: OZZY-POOL (OZZY)

This week in the Cardano SPO column we have a stake pool run by a family, motivated by their willingness to contribute to the decentralization of the network, but also to donate part of the income to cancer research: OZZY-POOL [OZZY] .

Last week’s guest was a Stake Pool Operator led by the mission of supporting psychedelic research by donating part of the revenue to relevant organizations.

This initiative is a point of reference for all things Cardano and every week or two we will invite a Stake Pool Operator (SPO) to answer a few questions and give us an update directly from within the Cardano community.

Considering that many of our readers are new to the crypto space, we will have a mix of simple and technical questions.

Hi, thanks for your availability. Tell us a little about your family, where do you come from and what do you do?

Thanks for inviting us. Ozzy Pool is run by me Chris and my partner Becca, we live in Milton Keynes in the UK and have three young children who keep us very active.

My brother Steven is also part of the OZZY pool team and performs many of the technical tasks associated with managing a stake pool. It is always helpful to have a family member who is a software engineer.

Becca is a support worker for adults with learning disabilities, which fits her caring personality perfectly.

For my part, I am a senior network operations analyst for a payment platform provider and therefore love to dive into the technical details of Cardano’s transaction speeds and quantities.

What fascinates you about Cardano and how did you find yourself managing a stake pool?

Like many in the community I came across Cardano after investing in the stock market. Due to the global pandemic, I was looking for alternative ways to make money, and investing in cryptocurrencies seemed to have great potential.

After months of research, I realized there was a lot more behind cryptocurrencies and the ecosystems that are being developed. As someone who spends their days in a data center surrounded by payments, I understand the potential global utility of the Cardano ecosystem. It was built with a solid foundation that is equipped for the scalability that is needed in our ever-changing world.

As a family that strongly believes in fundraising and helping others, I soon realized that Cardano not only has the technical aspects, but also the community that accompanies it. The principles around which the ecosystem has been developed are those of equality and inclusion. All of these principles align with ours as a family. When we realized we could reconcile this ecosystem with fundraising for cancer research, we decided it was a natural fit and, after some persuasion, my brother and I opened the stake pool.

What does an SPO’s daily routine look like? There are so many pools to choose from, what sets you apart from the others?

Unfortunately, it’s not all plain sailing as some might think. It takes a long time to educate new community members, whether it’s helping them understand the concept of staking or just how to set up a wallet for staking.

The marketing side of pool management tends to outweigh the technical time spent managing the nodes. Aside from that, we’re lucky to have Steven checking the nodes 24/7 365 days a year.

We are a mission-led pool dedicated to donating and raising funds for cancer research. We do this by donating a portion of our personal rewards so that it does not affect the rewards of delegators. It’s a double win for our delegators, who receive rewards in ADA and the satisfaction of helping others.

The Cardano Monthly Update took place on Thursday 27/05, what excited you the most about the things mentioned?

Where to start, after seeing the monthly update I believe even more that the opportunities for Cardano are endless once we enter the Alonzo era. I am very excited about the P2P network accessibility progression that will soon be available on the network. I think Marlowe will revolutionize things, bringing lots of new daily users into the space with its user-friendly interface, this will help them interact with the blockchain without even realizing. Smart contracts will allow developers to completely change the dynamics of our ecosystem and DeFi will explode, offering those without access to credit a way to obtain it, which in turn will help developing countries evolve faster, giving their access to the latest technologies.

Also, I was impressed with the ease of operation of the ERC-20 Converter from the user’s point of view. It is amazing to see how someone in possession of AGI tokens can convert them from their MetaMask wallet into native Cardano AGI tokens and send them to a Cardano wallet.

Thank you very much for the contribution. Any additional comments? Where can people follow you?

If anyone has any questions, complex or not, please contact Becca or me. We are available on Facebook , Twitter and Instagram .

Please help us raise as much as we can for cancer research, together we can make a huge difference. Charity is very close to our hearts because my father Philip Osborne, nicknamed OZZY, passed away two years ago due to this disease. I know for a fact that even though he left us he was grateful for the possibility of being involved in many clinical trials that could potentially save future lives.

Thanks again for inviting us and we look forward to welcoming you all to the OZZY family.
