Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson has issued a strong warning following a scam allegation directed at him. An internet user named Robin Engraf accused Hoskinson of being involved in a scam, claiming that an Input Output employee, Gabriel Martin, embezzled funds disguised as a trade withdrawal. Engraf stated he had months of chat logs and bank records, urging U.S. authorities to investigate.
Hoskinson Denies Allegations and Calls Out Victim’s Mistake
In response, Hoskinson dismissed the allegation as completely baseless. He addressed the situation publicly, stating, “Does anyone want to tell Robin that he got scammed by someone over the internet and now he’s blaming a multi-billion dollar company for his carelessness and stupidity?” His unapologetic tone reflected his frustration with the situation.

It never ceases to amaze me that people fall for scams and then seek out someone to blame. Let's see what… pic.twitter.com/DC4lh6OKbw
Hoskinson explained that this type of scam is not new. For nearly a decade, he has watched impersonation scams target unsuspecting victims. People fall for get-rich-quick schemes and then look for someone to blame when things go wrong. According to Hoskinson, thousands of people have contacted him with similar claims after losing money to online fraudsters.

He noted that victims often accuse well-known individuals after sending money to strangers who promised unrealistic returns or secret investment opportunities. When the scam inevitably collapses, the victims lash out, blaming prominent figures like Hoskinson for their financial losses.
Calls for Accountability and Awareness
Hoskinson didn’t hold back on his views regarding accountability. He said these scams continue to thrive because victims refuse to accept their role in enabling them. Many believe they can gain something for nothing, and when they don’t, they become enraged and look for scapegoats.

He further questioned whether Engraf or similar victims would ever apologize for falsely accusing him and his company. According to Hoskinson, public shaming is the only effective deterrent left, given how frequent these scams have become.
Hoskinson ended his message with a final warning: falling for an obvious impersonation scam does not justify defaming others. “If something seems too good to be true, it probably is,” he emphasized. His message, while harsh, aims to raise awareness and prevent others from falling into the same trap.
