Cardano is a blockchain project that has proved its potential in the cryptosphere. According to the data from CoinMarketCap, ADA, the native crypto token of the project is the third-largest cryptocurrency in terms of market cap. Cardano’s most awaited Alonzo era age is near. Recently, Input and Output Hong Kong (IOHK) the team behind Cardano has submitted an upgrade proposal to the testnet of the project. It is known that the upgrade is the final stage before smart contracts will be deployed to the mainnet. Indeed, the chain will be hard forked into the Alonzo era.
Cardano is a step ahead of smart contracts
On Friday, the IOHK team has tweeted to announce that they have submitted a proposal to hard fork Cardano, to Alonzo era. The latest petition of the proposal has marked a milestone for the network. Moreover, submission is known to be the last step before the integration of smart contracts.

According to the tweet, the submission marks the final and vital stage before the hard forking of the mainnet. It is also revealed that the target date for the mainnet hard fork is September 12, 2021.
Final checks and tests are in the cycle
Until the fork into the mainnet, the developers will continue with check and test on the upgrade in a controlled environment. According to IOHK, over the days ahead they will be doing final checks to ensure that they are ready to upgrade the main network. Indeed, all the units attributed to the upcoming upgrade will have to work for a determined period before the eventual shipment for implementation.
Dimitris Poulopoulos, the delivery leader of IOHK, has dubbed such process of tests as the “final dress rehearsal”. However, the team behind Cardano seeks to ensure that the blockchain ushers in a transformative era of smart contracts capability.
According to Charles Hoskinson, the CEO of the IOHK community, the upgrade will be followed by a big show. He also has thanked the ADA community and confirmed that his team has greenlit Alonzo’s final stage.
Cardano’s network is in the Shelly era
According to the roadmap of the blockchain network, Cardano is the final stage of the Shelly era. The particular phase introduced several new features to the blockchain. Such features also include a Proof-of-Stake protocol that is known as the Ouroboros.
Notably, Shelly will be followed by the Goguen generation that will bring decentralized applications (dApps) to the ADA ecosystem.
