Milkomeda Foundation is inviting developers worldwide to participate in its first-ever DeFi Shippers Hackathon for the Cardano ecosystem. As a Project Catalyst initiative, the focus is on building tools that will support the next generation of decentralized finance (DeFi) applications on the Milkomeda C1 — Cardano EVM sidechain. This is a fantastic opportunity for web3 developers to work together on the future of DeFi on the Cardano.

Launch on Milkomeda and Reach the Cardano Community!

Milkomeda C1 is an EVM-enabled sidechain for Cardano, delivering Solidity smart contract support to one of the most vibrant and passionate communities in the blockchain space. The hackathon will challenge global teams to develop new tools and solutions for decentralized finance in the Cardano ecosystem using programming languages they are familiar with such as Javascript, Typescript, and Solidity on top of Milkomeda’s EVM. Participants will be encouraged to explore a wide range of possibilities, from improving existing DeFi protocols and expanding current user experiences to building something completely novel from scratch.

Milkomeda’s core developers, dcSpark, have also recently announced new technology called wrapped smart contracts. These allow the users of Cardano to interact with smart contracts and DApps on Milkomeda without even leaving the mainchain (L1)! Users will submit a single Cardano transaction with the data and assets required to interact with the sidechain DApp and the sidechain bridge layer takes care of the rest. Meaning that DApps built on the Milkomeda C1 sidechain can be used in the same way as native Cardano DApps!

Winners Will Share 34,000 USD In Prizes

Entries to the Milkomeda DeFi Shippers Hackathon will be submitted into one of the follow categories:

• Classic DeFi
• Modern DeFi
• CeDeFi

And other cool ideas that you may have!

There is a total of $34K in prizes to be won, which are divided between 3 podium prizes as well as a deployment prize pool. The podium prize pool totals $6K and is divided as follows:

• First Place $3k
• Second Place $2K
• Third Place $1K

The Deployment Prize pool totals $28k, and teams that successfully deploy their project will be eligible for the Deployment Prize Pool. The amount awarded to each team will vary depending on the number of projects successfully deployed. All approved and deployed on C1-devnet projects will split the $28,000 USD prize pool, with each project eligible for up to a maximum of $4,000 USD per single deployment (excluding the podium prizes).

All You Need to Know: Rules, and Deliverables

The hackathon is organized remotely and takes place over the course of four weeks. The first day begins with a global invitation for all teams to join the Hackathon dedicated discord channel. During the next 28 days, there will be an open Discord channel available to solve any team’s questions. After the second week, the first official check-in and project feedback will take place.

As the first half of the hackathon concludes, teams will then have the remaining two weeks to apply feedback and continue working on their project. As the Milkomeda DeFi Shippers Hackathon comes to an end, teams will finalize, submit, and deploy their project on Milkomeda C1 Devnet.

The rules for the DeFi Hackathon are straightforward and can be summarized as follows:

• You need to start coding at day 1
• You can use other publicly available projects to bootstrap
• You need to deploy your project on Milkomeda C1 Devnet to be considered for any portion of the prize pool
• All teams will be required to share a publicly available GitHub repository as well as a 2-minute project presentation video.

All hackathon teams will have access to technical support from the Milkomeda core development team at dcSpark. Support will be made available via a dedicated private channel in the dcSpark Discord server.

The support won’t stop there, and all entrants are encouraged to ask technical questions as they continue to develop their product once the hackathon has concluded.
