The Cardano Foundation is working with Georgia’s National Wine Agency and other partners to track the authenticity and quality of wine made in the eastern European nation using blockchain technology.
The alliance, which also includes Scantrust and the Bolnisi Winemakers Association, aims to improve the reputation of Georgia’s wine production abroad by utilizing the Cardano (ADA) blockchain.
The Cardano Foundation reports that the Bolnisi region of Georgia will introduce a pilot programme that targets both export and local markets. Up to 100,000 bottles of wine will be part of the experiment, and each bottle will have a unique label with a QR code that customers can scan to confirm the product’s legitimacy.
Mel McCann, the vice president of engineering of the Cardano Foundation,
The Cardano Foundation takes pleasure in its technical integration projects that support the creation of solutions for a variety of businesses and systems. This partnership will create a unique, affordable, and adaptable certification and traceability system that will offer wineries and customers transparency and authenticity from the moment of harvest to the point of consumption.
An organization in Switzerland called the Cardano Foundation is in charge of advancing the Cardano blockchain.
The ADA blockchain will also be used by Georgia’s National Wine Agency to generate public records using already-existing certification information on wine intended for export.
According to the Bolnisi Winemakers Association’s founder, Guram Avkopashvili, in 10 years, they want to make and export 12 million bottles of wine from Bolnisi. They currently make 200,000 bottles of wine and export to China, Georgia, Europe, the US, and Australia. They also need to increase consumer confidence in their products in order to move past this. As a result, the Cardano track-and-trace solution becomes crucial for them to reach their objective.
