Tornado Cash developers receive support from Cardano camp

One of the main stories playing in the latest crypto news right now is the development that the crypto mixer Tornado Cash has been declared illegal by the US authorities. Opinions are strongly divided on whether this is a good or bad development. Cardano (ADA) founder Charles Hoskinson, however, is in the latter camp; He finds It is clearly a bad development!

Tornado Cash is a so-called crypto mixer. Such a tool allows users to disguise the digital traces of transactions. It can therefore be seen as a useful tool to promote the privacy of crypto users. Unfortunately, there is also a bad side to the story.

Criminals, of course, are eager to use mixers. For example, after they hack into a crypto exchange, they can flee with the loot by hiding the tracks.

The response from the crypto community, including that of the founder of Cardano, has been mainly aimed at the developers behind Tornado Cash. One of them was recently arrested in Amsterdam. Hoskinson is not at all happy with this as he believes developers should be able to program what they want. What others ultimately do with the code is beyond the responsibility of the original developers, Cardano’s founder said.

Writing crypto code is like a book

He likens programming to writing books like “How to build a bomb” or “How to make cyanide.” The author of the book cannot control what readers will do with the information in the future.

“For the most part, those are just words. You don’t tell people to do this.”

He adds:

“As long as we don’t get involved in running and using that code for certain purposes, we just write it; it’s like writing a book.”
