We’re thrilled to announce that Sebastien Guillemot, co-founder of dcSpark, Paima Studios, and Milkomeda, joins the Genius X Advisory Program! Sebastien will be sharing his knowledge and expertise with Genius X Accelerator program participants.

We used this opportunity to interview Sebastien and bring him closer to the Genius X community.

Please introduce yourself: What’s your specialty and role in dcSpark, Paima Studios, and Milkomeda

My name is Sebastien Guillemot. I’m based in Japan where I’ve been in the blockchain space for about 5 years. Although originally came to the country to join EMURGO (one of the founding entities of Cardano), I later co-founded my own company called dcSpark, and later Milkomeda and Paima Studios as well.

For dcSpark, I am the CTO. dcSpark is one of the core contributors to Milkomeda (which was originally incubated by dcSpark). For Paima Studios, I tend to handle all the externally-facing parts of the company from partnerships to developer relations and more.

How and when did you get involved in crypto?

After a brief involvement in 2014, I got involved in crypto more seriously in 2017 when I started making educational content and videos about blockchains. From there, EMURGO reached out to me and I ended up flying over to Japan to join their team

What lessons have you learned during your professional journey?

The biggest differentiator between the founders and individual contributors who do well and those who don’t is their ability to take ownership. It’s so easy nowadays with remote work to assume somebody else will handle a task, will follow-up on a work item, will reach out to a potential partner, and so on. Being the person that takes ownership and acts is extremely powerful.

How did you learn about the Genius Ecosystem

As somebody who creates educational content myself, I’m familiar with the educational content created by Dr. Lars Brünjes who later himself joined the Genius Ecosystem when he joined Genius Yield as CTO

How would you describe Genius X? What features about Genius X drew you to the Advisory Program?

Genius X is an accelerator and launchpad that has helped fuel the growth of multiple projects in the Cardano ecosystem. We were looking for accelerator & launchpad partners for the Paima Ecosystem (a Web3 Engine which allows easily creating on-chain games) and working together with the Genius X team made a lot of sense.

How will you use your experience to support Genius X projects?

I’ve been working professionally in the blockchain industry for 5 years and have created multiple successful startups working deeply both on the tech and on public-facing content. I hope I can leverage my experience and knowledge to enable Genius X projects to bring their vision to life

What would be the best advice you could give to a startup?

There is a lot of competition at the moment, so think hard about what differentiates you from the competition. This is especially important as a lot of projects these days have “going cross-chain” on their roadmap, but often don’t talk about how their unique skills or unique technology will allow them to penetrate these crowded markets.
