A new update for the Cardano app on Ledger has gone live, and the upgrade will support smart contracts.
Popular cryptocurrency hardware provider Ledger has announced that it has released a new upgrade for the Cardano (ADA) app to support the latest features of the Cardano ecosystem.
The Cardano app has been upgraded to v.4.0.0, and the update will feature smart contract functionality.
“Attention #Cardano #ADA users! v.4.0.0 of the Cardano app is now available for download in Ledger Live. The app is compatible with smart contracts. Cardano DeFi + Ledger = Onwards!” Ledger tweeted recently.

Ledger noted on its support page that it decided to upgrade the Cardano app to version 4.0.0 in order to integrate new features from the blockchain.
The Ledger Cardano app is yet to feature smart contract functionality even though the update was added on September 12, 2021.
In a bid to grant its users the necessary exposure to the latest Cardano feature, Ledger had to update the ADA app to integrate the newest feature.
Features of the Upgrade
With the upgrade, users can sign smart contracts from the Cardano app and perform other features, Ledger noted.
However, before users can update their Ledger Cardano app to the latest version, users are required to update their Ledger wallet firmware and install the Ledger Live App on their device before proceeding.
Once users have successfully completed the Cardano app update, they will be granted access to Cardano’s decentralized applications via YoROI and AdaLite.

The development attracted the attention of Charles Hoskinson, the CEO, and founder of Input-Output Global (IOG), who took to his Twitter page to celebrate the latest feat.
