How does Flickto aim to positively influence culture?
Flickto was birthed in October 2021 to be an alternative means to the traditional financing model that currently exists within the media industry.

― Jim Morrison
Flickto was birthed in October 2021 to be an alternative means to the traditional financing model that currently exists within the media industry. At the forefront of our vision is to embrace the rich culture that exists within the world through encouraging smaller, underrepresented content creators to commit to their dreams despite the seclusion of Hollywood.
As John Maynard Keynes, a famous Economist, once said, “The difficulty lies not in the new ideas, but in escaping from the old ones.” And this is something that as a company we embody fully. There must always be credit and appraisal given to what Hollywood has done for the generations that have been a part of its growth and influence within society.
Yet, the world that we live in today is not the same as the one that we once knew. With a major culture shift through the international integration of communities, new perspectives and stories have never been more important.
The media have an important impact on cultural globalisation in two mutually interdependent ways: Firstly, the media provide an extensive transnational transmission of cultural products and, secondly, they contribute to the formation of communicative networks and social structures.
More importantly, the media can influence the behaviour of those who consume media as an infallible source of information. The media can manipulate, influence, persuade and pressurise society, along with even controlling the world at times in both positive and negative ways; mentally, physically and emotionally.
Much of our community, as I am sure you will be aware of, have experienced the grand success of international series such as “Squid Game” in the last year. According to Bloomberg, $900m in “impact value” was produced by the hit survival drama, thus demonstrating the immense potential that overseas shows have in the West.
Is this a clear sign that the landscape of the film industry is shifting?
The hit success of “Squid Game” can only ask the question of how it became so successful, despite having many setbacks in the pre-production stages. The first few days of its release it became one of the most popular series on Netflix, in more than 90 countries and thus became a topic of conversation on every social platform.
What we find the most interesting is the cross-culture transfer of a Korean violent thriller series being appreciated by members of hundreds of international communities. The boundaries of segregated media industries are slowly being eroded away as we move into an age of social and cultural fusion.
Where Flickto steps in…
Flickto encourages this shift into a more interconnected world through decentralisation. The dispersion of ideas and cultures is a major reason why Cardano’s blockchain technology has been seen to provide the future of sustainable ecosystems, a foundation which we plan to utilise in our mission of DeMe (Decentralised Media). Hollywood has failed to appreciate holistic narratives, especially as it has created a monopoly that discourages smaller communities to voice themselves. One language dies every 14 days. By the next century nearly half of the roughly 7,000 languages spoken on Earth will likely disappear, as communities abandon native tongues in favor of English, Mandarin, or Spanish. Every culture deserves the right to be not only proud, but to be able to share their authenticity to the world.
