Shinkai Launches v1.0: Onchain AI Agents Go Live with USDC & Coinbase x402

								<p>Sebastien Guillemot, co-founder of Paima Studios and dcSpark, <a href="https://x.com/SebastienGllmt/status/1932911176394158399" target="_blank">jolted</a> the Cardano developer community on X this afternoon with a terse progress report: “We’re up to 3 full-time developers working on Starstream (on top of myself)… We’re accelerating development to bring it to mainnet faster given all the interest.”</p>
<p>The message, though only two sentences long, signals a meaningful resource shift inside the still-nascent Starstream working group and suggests that Cardano’s first zero-knowledge virtual machine (zkVM) may appear on mainnet sooner than previously expected. No target block height or hard launch window has been released, but the acceleration comes barely five weeks after founder Charles Hoskinson publicly supported the working group, calling the project “a core component of Cardano’s future.”</p>
<h2>Why Starstream Matters For Cardano</h2>
<p>Starstream matters because it tackles the single most common criticism of Cardano’s extended-UTXO ledger: the difficulty of building stateful, privacy-preserving applications without fracturing logic across dozens of validator scripts. In Cardano’s eUTXO model every piece of contract state lives inside its own unspent output, a design that grants parallelism and determinism but complicates long-running workflows and advanced cryptography.</p>
<p>Research groups inside IOG have explored adding recursive SNARKs to <a href="https://bitcoinist.com/cardano-founder-buterin-new-ethereum-proposal/" target="_blank">Plutus</a>, yet a production implementation has remained elusive. Starstream’s answer is to step outside Plutus entirely and embed a coroutine-oriented zkVM that compiles to WebAssembly, executes off-chain, and seals each state transition inside a succinct proof verified on-chain by a lightweight Plutus wrapper.</p>
<p>“Starstream is a chain-agnostic, UTXO-based, <a href="https://bitcoinist.com/zksync-vs-optimism-zero-knowledge-proof-race/" target="_blank">zero-knowledge</a> virtual machine that re-imagines smart-contract execution using coroutines as its foundational primitive,” notes the original technical overview published on Cardano Explorer in late April.</p>
<p>Coroutines give developers something they have never had: a single, linear program that can pause mid-execution, emit a UTXO that holds both data and the exact byte-code position, and later resume when a new transaction spends that output. A yield point in Starstream therefore becomes a cryptographically secured checkpoint; when the program wakes up, it needs only prove—rather than re-execute—the suspended segment.</p>
<p>The result is a state machine that preserves UTXO determinism while natively supporting multi-step workflows such as auctions, lending loops or on-chain games, all without shared-state contention.</p>
<p>Notably, Cardano has historically proceeded through carefully staged <a href="https://bitcoinist.com/cardano-plomin-era-successful-hard-fork/" target="_blank">hard-fork combinator</a> events by Hoskinson-led Input Output (IOG); Starstream, by contrast, is being built as an opt-in execution layer that can be grafted onto Cardano without a network-wide fork, making its path to mainnet limited chiefly by audit, peer review and tooling.</p>

While he did not share specifics, the crypto leader took to X to inform his followers that “Starstream has the potential to become a core component of Cardano’s future.”</p>
<h2>Hoskinson Joins Starstream Working Group</h2>
<p>Recently, Charles Hoskinson joined the Starstream Working Group. This move marks a growing trend among institutions to enhance the performance of blockchains through new execution environments. Sebastien Guillemot, the co-founder of crypto ecosystem builder dcSpark and an early advocate of the Starstream initiative, confirmed his involvement with a post on X.

<p>Cardano has an existing extended UTXO (eUTXO) model but has encountered some implementation challenges, especially with advanced cryptography. This setback is catered for with Starstream, which utilizes a WebAssembly-based VM that generates a ZK Proof for every smart contract interaction to resolve them.</p>
<p>This way, computations are verified efficiently without the need to reveal underlying data, which ultimately directly addresses previous limitations. With near-free transaction batching and simplified use cases, including Oracles, gaming, real-world assets, and stablecoins, the system also contributes to enhancing performance.</p>
<h2>Cardano Midnight and Other Advancement in the Spotlight</h2>
<p>Apart from this integration, Cardano has made some other notable advancements. The Cardano Midnight Network sidechain has gained significant traction in the last few months. As a protocol, keenly focused on data protection and privacy, this sidechain could serve as a foundational platform for blockchain-based equity issuance, per Hoskinson’s projection.</p>
<p>His optimism is fueled by Midnight’s privacy, programmability, and interoperability features, which Hoskinson says are critical to bringing traditional stock markets onto blockchain systems.</p>
<p>Cardano’s light wallet Lace, also welcomed a new iteration dubbed version 1.22. <p>Sébastien Guillemot, a popular Cardano contributor and dcSpark co-founder has revealed a significant contribution to the Cardano ecosystem, with his development team officially donating $460,000 worth of ADA tokens to the Cardano Treasury. The donation includes a $400,000 loan repayment, along with $60,000 in accumulated interest, calculated at a 6% APR.</p>
