Do Commits Matter? What if Average Monthly Developers on Ethereum, Cardano, or Bitcoin go up or down?

Coin98 Analytics expressed: Work hard in silence, let the price be the noise. Kudos to Avalanche, Solana, and the Chainlink team.

Someone felt that Cardano not being on that list is hilarious.  Further stated, Commits in a single week for Cardano is more than the others/month.

Why would ethereum go from 2,300 average monthly developers in April to only 51 commits in the last month? Ethereum, with the largest DApp ecosystem and programming talent, cannot be this low.

Bitcoin has less commits since it’s ossification.

Commit is like Elon Musk tweets to Doge. I don’t understand why a number of commits would mean anything. I can make 1000 commits per day.

Open-source cryptocurrency projects need developers to keep the ecosystem sustained.  However, there are most committed technologists and developers whose total activity has stayed relatively constant irrespective of whether the price is going up or down.

Cryptocurrency projects with a lower market cap tend to lose developers; however, decentralized finance and infrastructure projects have gained them. Without incentives, people leave.  Despite the market caps going down, developers’ overall year-over-year growth rates never dropped to zero in the cryptocurrency market.

What does committing code mean? In version control systems, a commit is an operation that sends the latest changes of the source code to the repository, making these changes part of the head revision of the repository. Unlike commits in data management, commits in version control systems are kept in the repository indefinitely.

Thus, when other users do an update or a checkout from the repository, they will receive the latest committed version unless they specify they wish to retrieve a previous version of the source code in the repository. Version control systems allow rolling back to previous versions easily. In this context, a commit within a version control system is protected as it is easily rolled back, even after the commit has been applied.

Developers are the people who keep the cryptocurrency ecosystems sustained and alive.  When there is a loss in the market, the trend is to see developers leaving the blockchains which are not in the top 100 in terms of market cap.

Some blockchains attract full-time developers, and they lose contributors only occasionally. Successful projects which are up and coming with promising stories have a lot of developers working in a committed manner. A testnet that is well developed is also an excellent way to attract committed contributors. In short, blockchains that attract and retain talent are what commits are all about.
