Cardano's Hoskinson Critiques “Drama-Driven” Crypto Community, Pushes for Collaboration

Charles Hoskinson, the founder of Cardano (ADA) and Chief of the network’s development firm Input Output Global (IOG), has blasted individuals fueling discord within the crypto community even as the network continues to face its share of criticism.

Speaking on his YouTube channel Friday, Hoskinson likened the atmosphere in the crypto sphere to professional wrestling’s “kayfabe,” where exaggerated characters perpetually stay in character to entertain and engage the audience.

Interestingly, Hoskinson began by recalling his childhood memories of watching wrestling legends like Macho Man Randy Savage and Hulk Hogan, highlighting the allure of staying in character both on and off-screen. Drawing parallels, he discussed the prevalence of professional outrage and drama within the cryptocurrency space, particularly on platforms like Twitter and Telegram.

“The professional outrage and drama class that exists… they do this on purpose to create a controversy,” stated Hoskinson, emphasizing how these tactics garner attention and engagement.

He lamented how even harmless events could spiral into manufactured controversies, fueling division and outrage within the community.

Notably, Hoskinson’s criticism stems from a recent incident involving Cardano and the exclusion of certain projects from a poll that sought to establish the Layer-1 Solution of the Year. He emphasized that these issues may generate attention but ultimately distract from the collaborative efforts needed to advance the cryptocurrency ecosystem.

“So, we have this Metaverse X thing…you notice that my issue was with this poll that came out that the foundation for whatever reason was syndicating. I’m not sure why that excluded all the entrepreneurs in the Cardano ecosystem and all the Cardano projects. When you look at the poll, it’s like sponsored content…the intent is to kind of create some momentum for particular people,” added Hoskinson.

Turning to Cardano, the crypto mogul also addressed the broader issue of governance, stressing that the call to members of the crypto community to engage in constructive dialogue and collaboration is connected to it.

“I think about this a lot because it’s related to governance it’s related to how we make decisions the Cadence of making decisions and the level of depth of discourse required for it we are,” he went on.

It is crucial to note the structured development journey of Cardano, which is organized into five distinct eras, with each era focused on delivering specific functionalities through multiple code releases. Currently, the network is advancing through the Basho phase, prioritizing scalability, before transitioning to the final phase, known as “Voltaire”, which will emphasize governance and provide essential components for Cardano to become a self-sustaining system.

On several occasions, Hoskinson has dismissed FUD (Fear, Uncertainty, and Doubt) directed towards Cardano’s governance, with some members of the crypto community concerned that IOG’s continued control over the project could compromise decentralization.
