Last weekend Cardano (ADA) took an important step towards the long-awaited Vasil hard fork. The Input Output Global (IOG) team, the developer behind Cardano, has the latest node version launched. The team explains exactly what this means in a number of tweets.
Cardano is (almost) ready for Vasil
Updating a decentralized blockchain network is a complicated job. For example, all participants in the network must be running the same version in order to activate certain new functions. Last weekend, IOG Cardano released node 1.35.0, the version that will eventually ensure that the major Vasil update can be implemented.
Vasil is an update that brings “significant performance and capacity upgrades to Cardano,” the team said. This new node version is an important milestone towards this upgrade.
Now the nodes are namely “code complete.” That means the code is there to perform the following important tests. The next step is therefore that the new node version is first implemented on the testnet.
We’re code complete on all the core #cardano software. Testing on the new #Plutus v2 code (including new CIPs which significantly improve smart contract performance) has been successful, and delivered very positive results in terms of performance and improved cost.

When will the Cardano Vasil update come?
As soon as 75% of the stake pool operators (STOs) accept the new node version on the testnet, it will be committed. Then the tests can start in preparation for a mainnet release.
But when will that long-awaited Vasil update come? The cardano news previously stated that it was planned for the end of this month, but was postponed. Also in this update, the team behind Cardano emphasizes:
“As we communicated before, our first concern is to make sure we do this safely and make sure all ecosystem partners are comfortable and ready.”
So just a little patience before we know exactly when Vasil will come to Cardano!
Recently, Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson was on a visit to the US government. There, he shared his views on how best to regulate the United States’ thousands of cryptocurrencies.
