Plomin Hard Fork:

The Plomin hard fork represents a historic shift to true decentralized governance, empowering ada holders with direct voting capabilities on crucial network decisions – from parameter changes and treasury withdrawals to the future of the blockchain.

CIP-1694, the official "Cardano Improvement Proposal," has been approved by the Cardano community – this has established three user-led governance bodies: the Constitutional Committee, Delegate Representatives (dReps), and Stake Pool Operators (SPOs). Cardano's three founding entities—the Cardano Foundation, Input Output Global (IOHK) and Emurgo—no longer have the keys to trigger chain upgrades or "hard forks." That responsibility now lies with the new governance groups.

The implementation showcases strong network consensus and readiness, with over 85% of stake pools upgrading their nodes and robust support from both stake pool operators and the Interim Constitutional Committee.

Speaking on the news, Cardano Foundation CTO Giorgio Zinetti said: “We have been working towards full decentralization at the Cardano Foundation for many years – this has always been the goal. We’re one of the few layer 1s–and the largest layer 1 with on-chain governance–that have been able to achieve the fundamental goal of web3. Everyone in the Cardano community is now onboard and actively participating in onchain governance. The Plomin hard fork creates a comprehensive and robust governance structure that aligns network participation with voting rights - ensuring those most invested in the network's success have a voice in its future. This will create a strong and attractive platform for developers and enterprises.”
