The Cardano Foundation has announced a move that could see ADA’s adoption surge in Latin America, as it partners with Brazil’s largest IT firm, SERPRO (Serviço Federal de Processamento de Dados).
The partnership, officially revealed on Thursday, aims to integrate Cardano’s blockchain technology into Brazil’s public sector, potentially revolutionizing government digital services.
“Cardano Foundation Announces Strategic Partnership with SERPRO. SERPRO is the world’s largest state-owned Information Technology company. The collaboration aims to help accelerate blockchain adoption and digital transformation in Latin America’s largest public sector.” The announcement read.
SERPRO, Brazil’s leading provider of government technology solutions, operates an extensive technological infrastructure, processing 33 billion transactions annually and serving 90% of the country’s federal administration. This makes it the largest digital government platform in the world, positioning Cardano as a key player in Brazil’s tech-driven modernization efforts.
That said, Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson acknowledged the significance of the development and congratulated the foundation on securing the relationship.
Elsewhere, Frederik Gregaard, CEO of the Cardano Foundation, further emphasized the importance of the partnership, stating, “Our collaboration with SERPRO represents a transformative step in modernizing Brazil’s public sector infrastructure through blockchain education and technology.”
“This sets a powerful precedent for government adoption across Latin America and showcases Cardano Foundation’s commitment to driving meaningful technological progress in the region.” He added.
The SERPRO partnership is the latest in a series of strategic moves by Cardano to establish itself as a leader in blockchain adoption. In June 2023, Cardano partnered with Entre Ríos Province in Argentina to integrate blockchain solutions into public administration, enhancing efficiency and transparency. Then, in October 2024, the network hosted its first legally enforceable smart contract, signed in Argentina and recognized under its judicial system.
Furthering its expansion, Cardano joined BitcoinOS in October to leverage Bitcoin’s $1.3 trillion liquidity for its decentralized finance (DeFi) ecosystem, enhancing cross-chain capabilities.
Charles Hoskinson has consistently emphasized the role of strategic partnerships in driving blockchain adoption. In a December 2024 livestream, he stated, “We have never had better opportunities as an ecosystem to make partnerships with people because the reality is we have great tech.”
At the time, he also revealed that the platform has engaged with major industry players, including Microsoft Azure, Polkadot, and Hedera, to expand its influence across various sectors.
